History
The Icehouse was founded between March and May 2014 by two brothers, Simon and Yves Mesnard, in order to create a community of people who could work on their own projects freely, using their own ideas, and benefit from the experience of each other. Simon and Yves were quickly joined in the collective by Andrea Ferrara and Roger Kilroy-Talbot, followed a few months later by the main developers of Luminy Studios, Juanjo Barcelo Molina and Andrea Rinaldi. What we are trying to do: The Icehouse is a creators’ community that only exists online. We are not a publisher nor a business making money. The single purpose of the collective is to gather together talented but unknown artists who share common ideas, and who wish to become our Members or our Friends. We then help each other. We spread the word about our projects and we bring our experience and advice. Our long-term goal might evolve, but we currently aim to become a kind of Projects Incubator. Please feel free to ask us anything! The Origin and Meaning of The Icehouse name TheIcehouse and TheIcehouse Logo is based upon a real place, a “Glaciere” (Icehouse in French) that is all that remains (apart from some earthworks and walls that are only visible from the sky above) of the ruins of a castle that is very close to where Simon and Yves spent their childhood, and is where they had several magical adventures in their youth. The meaning of The Icehouse name is related to the purpose of an Icehouse, which is where, in times past, things were put to keep them fresh and allow them to be used by everybody, for them to enjoy and to use to make things for the enjoyment of others. Not a creator? How you can support our indie developers and artists The icehouse is a non-profit collective and it has no corporate status: so we cannot process any financial transactions. The products we release are the work of our Members, who sell their products in their own name, independent of The Icehouse, via self-publishing services such as Trepstar, Steam, GOG, Lulu or more. This is important because, when you purchase something by linking through here, you can be confident that your money goes directly to the artists themselves, and not to the collective. Thank you! |
