About us
We are The Icehouse Collective, a Collaborative Community of Artists and Creatives! The Icehouse is a creators' collective that currently only exists online. Our purpose is to gather together talented creators who share common ideas, and the collective aim is to help them become more visible and find their potential.
We spread the word about the projects being done within the collective and we seek to act as a focal point, a type of Hub for our members, bringing together different skills, experiences and forming collaborations. This is done (depending on everyone’s availability and their motivation based upon the project/s) for free, and we don’t take any percentage/commission or a single dollar/monetary contribution for this help!
The Icehouse is a collective community of independent media artists and associates! We are Artists and Creatives, who are currently working on many projects of various kinds and different formats. We are mainly game developers, film directors, composers, and illustrators who enjoy art, video gaming and animation, and what we do is that we simply help each other.
We are currently centred on Adventure Games but that is not prohibitive, as we happily welcome any other kind of artistic creation (e.g. games of other genres, comics, short films, etc.).
Our Objectives
Our primary short-term goal is to support each other in terms of Artistic Creation and Project Development, to Collaborate where possible, and focus the news of everyone involved, whether it relates to Icehouse projects or not, onto Social Media. We consider that all the other artists will benefit from each other’s experience and hopefully everyone will get more and more visibility with successful projects.
We help each other for free whenever we have any free time. There cannot currently be any arguments regarding money in The Icehouse (even in relation to Patreon, which is solely intended to cover operational costs like web expenses etc.), as the collective doesn’t currently have any legally formal status and cannot open a bank account. So, each artist aims to help the other artists, and any revenues that they individually or jointly earn with their projects is theirs to manage as they wish.
Further along the road, we would like to become more of a Cultivator or Incubator of Creative/Artistic Ideas using our experience in Arts, Development and Production. This would make us a centre of attraction where The Icehouse would gather together Artists, Developers, Writers, Programmers and Technicians and provide Encouragement, Assistance, Resources, Administration, etc. to enable the viable production of Finished work – be they Games, Comics, Books, Exhibitions, and to assist in the Promotion of those completed works.
Structure
The Icehouse now has 3 different Statuses:
The collective lives by, and for its members. These each retain their own legal status and entity (society, freelancer...) whilst within the collective, and keep the entirety of the incomes gained under their name from their creations.
Membership is currently totally free. Any artist interested in joining can do so us by simply starting to interact with us via the Public section of the Forums and showing their involvement and interest, then become a Friend using a very simple registration process (this can be found in the public part of the Forums). There is no other condition (e.g. money, skills, age, country). The Default language within The Icehouse is English.
N.B. Becoming a member implies being involved.
Where a Member appears to have disappeared from activity within the Community (Forums – Discord – Facebook etc.) for a period of 6 months or more, their continued consideration/status as a Member may be reviewed.
New members
When any current member of the collective receives such a request for admission, or when he wishes to propose an artist that they know, the new candidate may be asked to complete a Membership Questionnaire. We’re not going to directly ask you to join us: we prefer that any such decision comes from the artists themselves. Maybe you might prefer to wait and see how we evolve, maybe you will want to take part in this evolution as soon as possible, or maybe you will not be interested at all. There are so many reasons for deciding to join or not, that we consider that it’s not our role to even ask.
Identity
The collective named The Icehouse is represented by its active members who intend to both give and maintain a clear identity for it. It is not the collective’s intention to grow as fast as possible in order to simply encompass as many artists as possible. The principle aim is to gather artists that can truly benefit from our support and share some of our strongest concepts.
N.B. We cannot support artists whose projects contain offensive remarks/content, political or contain/promote too radical/socially unacceptable ideas.
Departure from the Collective
Any member is free to leave the collective at any time they want, whatever the reason. They must simply inform the Administrators, and after their departure they will not be supported anymore by The Icehouse.
Any member that departs must fully accept the following conditions:
Conflicts within the Collective
In some cases, should any member/s be in conflict with another (regarding ideas, methods...), or if a member acts in a negative way towards the collective, exceptional measures may be taken against them to prevent further conflicts or complications in the effective operation of the collective. Any conflicts should be resolved amicably between the parties but, should any element of “personalisation”, malicious or time-wasting behaviour go beyond “reasonable” levels exceptional measures (including exclusion) may well come into force.
Votes
Where critical decisions regarding the operation of The Icehouse are required these will not be taken by any single member. The Administrators will put forward a proposal for consultation with the existing members. Where deemed necessary by the Administrators, each of these or such decisions will be taken by a vote of all the members. This vote will be nothing more than a Yes/No via the Forums. The period for voting will be strictly time-limited (the time limit will be advised in the initial Forum topic/thread).
Requests (within a reasonable time-frame) for clarification can be sent to the Administrators and their decisions can be challenged via the agreed resolution channels.
Process of Yes/No
An important evolution or change within the collective is proposed by the Administrators. This will be notified via the Forums, explaining in detail their idea and their motives. Each member must reply in a collective/group way, by saying Yes ("I agree") or No ("I disagree"). The period for voting will be strictly time-limited (the time limit will be advised in the initial Forum topic/thread).
The total of Yes and No is counted and the majority wins. In the case of a tie, the decision is taken on a collegial basis by consensus.
Resolution
Where there is a failure to reach an "agreed" solution to a proposal or conflict - be that a failure to get a satisfactory response or a tie in the number of votes or a failure to agree amongst the members, the decision of the Administrators shall be deemed to be Final.
Rights and royalties
Each member (past or present) of The Icehouse keeps the entirety of their publication rights. The Icehouse will never use their work without their consent. Only the titles of the projects of the current members, followed by the name of their respective authors, can be listed/advised to the press or on the internet during any process of communication meant to promote either The Icehouse, or the release of a project.
This Constitution is not exhaustive and final, and it is expected that it will evolve with the help of the members of The Icehouse, and thanks to the experience acquired during the evolution of the collective itself.
